How should you take a clear photo of your ID?
To take a clear photo of your ID, please ensure:
- All 4 corners of your ID are visible in the photo
- Your fingers aren't covering your photo or the information written on it
- The document is clear and in focus
- The lighting isn’t too dark
- There are no glares or reflection
How can you take a clear selfie?
To take a clear selfie picture, you should try to ensure it looks like the Photo ID on your document:
- Hold the phone straight in front of your face
- Keep your head straight, not tilted at an angle.
- Have your eyes open, visible and free from reflection or glare from glasses. To avoid reflections or glare, we recommend that you remove your glasses (if you can) before taking your photo.
- Make sure your hair isn’t covering your eyes.
- Take off any head coverings (unless worn for religious or medical reasons, in which case try to show as much of your face as possible).
- Avoid having any shadows across your face.
- If you can, do this in a place with good lighting conditions.
If you have any difficulties with taking a selfie or need more help, you can chat to us using our messenger at the bottom right corner of the page.
What is an out of date license?
We can only use valid ID documents for verification. If your licence is out of date, please contact the DVLA for a replacement.
What other reasons are there for your document being rejected?
This could be because:
- The document was not a UK driving licence
- We were unable to confirm the validity of the document/ that it has not been tampered with
- We were unable to successfully extract the data
- Date of birth on the ID. You must be 18 or over to use DriveScore as per our T&Cs.
You will have 5 attempts to verify your ID. If you fail after 5 attempts, we won’t be able to provide you with car insurance quotes on DriveScore.
