Our app monitors a variety of different 'events' to work out your driving score. When one of these events is recorded, your score could go down. Your score is based on the last 365 days of driving trips.
'Events' that can affect your driving score:
Harsh Acceleration
Flagged when you're accelerating at 0.33G (units of gravitational acceleration) or above. If you're doing it frequently, it impacts your overall score.
Hard Braking
Flagged when the phone registers about 0.33G slowing down. If the pavement is slick, due to rain or ice, average car tires can only deal with about 0.5G without skidding in average conditions.
Hard Cornering
Flagged when the phone registers about 0.42G sideways, as you're going around a corner. If the pavement is slick due to rain or ice, 0.5G is about the maximum that average car tires can deal with without slipping on average conditions.
Distraction
Flagged when the phone thinks your eyes are off the road or you’re not fully paying attention. If your phone is moved for a call, to check a text, play music, use a navigation/GPS app you may be penalised for distraction. The distraction penalty only applies for the period of time you were using the phone while in motion.
Speed Limit
Flagged when you're driving above the speed limit buffer (around 9 miles per hour). Speed limits are determined by the data in Open Street Maps and Google Maps.
Speeding Penalty on Highway
Currently, the app has trouble distinguishing between the highway and the road next to the highway. The app might judge your speed based on the nearest road instead of the highway speed limit. A fix for this issue is in development, however, if this has happened to you, please let us know.
You can improve the accuracy of each drive, by making sure your:
- Phone is in a fixed place (a phone car holder helps)
- Location in your settings – is always on.
- Phone is charged and not on low power (20% or lower) – so that your trips are recorded.
